Reconnecting with Nature: A Prescription for Better Health

Exposure to natural environments—whether rural or urban—has been shown to reduce stress and depression, improve immune system response, and increase focus. Yet it’s been estimated that U.S. adults spend up to 99 percent of their time inside and that our kids, on average, spend just 15 to 25 minutes in daily outdoor play or sports.

This year’s symposium explores potential antidotes to this disconnection from nature. Keynote speakers are Dr. Kathleen Wolf, research social scientist at the University of Washington, whose research explores the health benefits of nearby nature; and John Henderson, executive director of Park Rx America, a nonprofit that encourages health care professionals to prescribe nature during routine health care delivery. Additional presentations will reinforce the importance of green space and suggest unique ways to get outside

Cost: $20/person (lunch not included)

Registration will be available at the door on Friday starting at 8am.
