Monday, April 12, 2021

7pm EST

Join Dr. Andy Jones, the Museum’s William A. and Nancy R. Klamm Endowed Chair and Curator of Ornithology, and author Gary Meiter for a lively discussion of Mr. Meiters recent book, Bird is the Word: An Historical Perspective on the Names of North American Birds.

Bird is the Word is a different sort of bird book. More than a field guide, it’s a comprehensive compilation of the names of almost 800 North American birdsand of how, when, where, and by whom those names were created. In this evening’s program, Mr. Meiter will share some of the fascinating stories behind the naming of North America’s diverse avifauna and explain how he came to write the book. After conversation with Dr. Jones, the two will take your questions. Please join us for an event that’s sure to offer new perspectives on the rich history of American ornithology.

Signed copies of Bird is the Word will be available to audience members through the Museum’s partnership with Loganberry Books.
