High School Summer Day Camps

The Museum is proud to offer shorter summer camp experiences specifically designed for high school students through a collaboration with our Education and Science and Conservation departments. These one- and two-day camps will focus on showcasing our research collections, exploring new science concepts and building research skills in a hands-on way. Each camp will have both educators and scientists leading them to maximize the experience. See below for more information about the different camp options.

Camp Options:

Location: Museum

Cost: Members $75; Non-members $90

Fossil hunt, museum trip, hands-on look at ancient artifacts—this one-day camp has it all. Students will learn about Ohio's unique geological formation, discover dinosaur skeletons, and gain a deeper understanding of the indigenous people who once lived in our region. We’ll end the day with a wrap-up session, reflecting on everything we learned. Teens will dig this one-of-a-kind experience!

Diving into Biodiversity: An Intro to Field Methods

Date: July 27th

Time: 9:00-4:00

Location: Mentor Marsh Nature Center; 5185 Corduroy Road, Mentor

Cost: Members $75; Non-members $90

Description: Did you know that the Museum protects some of Ohio’s rarest species? How about that one out of every five animals is a beetle? Or that Lake Erie is part of the largest system of freshwater on Earth? In this one-day camp, high schoolers will learn about all these topics and more as they become field scientists for the day. Campers will work with scientists, educators, and naturalists to learn how to use a field notebook, act as responsible observers, and interpret the signs of nature to find Ohio’s biodiversity.

This camp (including drop-off and pick-up) takes place off site at Mentor Marsh Nature Center. We will be out in the field most of the day, so campers should dress for outdoor exploring. Waterproof shoes (or shoes you don't mind getting wet) are recommended.

No deposits accepted. Registration is online only. If the camp you want is sold out, please email our summer camp office, summercamps@cmnh.org to be added to the waitlist.
