Lakefront Birding Trip with Dr. Andy Jones and Courtney Brennan

Saturday, April 24, 2021

7:30 – 9:30 AM EST

Location: To be determined approximately 1 week prior to event date

Join Dr. Andy Jones, the Museum’s William A. and Nancy R. Klamm Endowed Chair and Curator of Ornithology, and Senior Collections Manager of Zoology Courtney Brennan for a birding adventure! In an excursion perfect for both beginning and seasoned birders, we will explore local habitats as migratory species return to the Cleveland area and our earliest nesting species begin to defend territories and lay eggs.

Our morning afield should uncover both migration and nesting behaviors, with sightings of dozens of species. April is a prime time for sparrow migration, while woodpeckers, chickadees, and others are already switching to nesting behaviors. New birders are often intimidated by sparrows, with field-guide pages full of similarly marked species. But with a little patience we can learn to sort them out.

We will select the exact location (somewhere in Cuyahoga County) one week before the date, based on weather as well as local bird patterns. Registrants will also receive a 21 species hit-list for this event.

Registrants must provide their own binoculars.
