This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday February 25

7:00 PM  –  8:00 PM

Thursday, February 25| 7pm - 8:00pm

On February 18, 2021, NASA's Perseverance spacecraft will dive into the Martian atmosphere at over 12,000 miles per hour; minutes later, it will touch down gently on the surface and get to work. Join the Astronomy Department to learn how Perseverance made it to Mars, why its landing site was selected, and what its first seven days tell us about the Red Planet. The mission will attempt to produce oxygen from the Martian atmosphere, search for evidence of ancient life, and cache rock samples that may be returned to Earth in the future. NASA even sent along an experimental helicopter to test the feasibility of flying on Mars!
