Join us as we explore two small but gorgeous natural areas. Cathedral Woods Preserve is the only remaining mature hemlock–hardwood forest on beach ridge sands in our region. It boasts a diversity of canopy trees, including hemlock, yellow birch, tuliptree, cucumber magnolia, various oaks, and one of Ohio’s finest populations of the state-endangered striped maple, Acer pensylvanicum. Next we'll visit the old-growth hemlocks of Armstrong Hemlock Swamp, where a headwater stream winds among the giant trees, some more than 2 feet in diameter.
